The Brief 2/14/17: Design News You Might Have Missed
by Theresa Christine Johnson on 02/14/2017 | 2 Minute Read
Happy Valentine’s Day slash Singles Awareness Day slash just another Tuesday, depending on however you view it. Regardless, we hope it’s a good one. If you’re scrambling for an amazing last-minute gift that is a little more meaningful than the traditional dozen roses and teddy bear, then check out our V Day gift guide.
Also, we announced something exciting yesterday: a call for entries for the Nielsen Design Impact Award. If you’ve designed something that has been a key role in attracting new buyers and driving sales for a brand, then this is your time to shine. The award identifies the most impactful redesigns over the last two years. It’s more than just pretty packaging—it’s something that’s performing well in the market, too. The deadline to enter is March 6th, 2017, and bonus: registration is free. (!)
Okay, here’s the latest:
- Happy Valentine’s Day. Love, Burger King (and yes, there’s even an adult toy inside).
- So...individually wrapped strawberries seem a little wasteful, no?
- Pomegranate peel bioplastics!
- Ikea is killin’ it. They’ve just launched a new range of kitchen fronts made from recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic bottles and reclaimed wood.
- Who run the world? All-female Pentagram team designs the branding for a women’s social club in New York.
- "This packaging will enable us to help growers, dispensaries and consumers extend the shelf life of cannabis while making the product much safer for consumption.”
- The best packaging is stylish and functional.
- An interesting look at the packaging for the new Kind bars. “The packaging had to celebrate the quality and simplicity of the ingredients without people having the ability to see what’s inside the wrapper.”
- Could you design a limited edition fragrance bottle for Terre d'Hermès? It’s worth a try—on top of a cash prize, you may get the chance to see your design IRL.
- How do you feel about the semi-disturbing images on cigarette packaging?
- To tackle Thailand's mounting trash problem, one company is turning to the country's plant life.
- Are the ethics of your client also your responsibility?
