Designer/ Bee Keeper (how cool is that?), Russell Gibbs created this packaging design for Gibbs Honey, a family business for over four generations. As a fellow Gibbs, our founder, Andrew Gibbs was really excited to see this brand. Read more after the jump!

"For the design, I really wanted to create something which was simple, memorable and something that felt timeless. Beekeeping has been in my family for 4 (+?) generations. I set out to design a brand that looked like it could have been established 4 generations ago. The basics about the logo is that its the shape of a comb, with a custom letter G in the centre.

For the packaing, I wanted something as simple as the brand. Also, reusable. So… I found a nice simple Mason jar with a black lid. The logo, weight and location is screened onto the bottle, all of the other necessary info, date-of-harvest stamp, etc… is included on the hang tag. The inspiration for this comes from milk bottles and, again going back to the idea of timelessness, I would love something that the consumer intends on reusing for jam, pencils, pickles… whatever!

A little bit about me, I've been a designer for almost 13 years working almost exclusively in Toronto. I relocated to Dundas, ON in 2007 and in June of 2011, I launched my own studio, Russell Gibbs Design. Design is obviously my full-time job.

Gibbs Honey is something I do for the love of it."
