Student Spotlight: The Fame Game

The Fame Game is a pop-culture board game that celebrates the ups and downs of the celebrity lifestyle.
The game mimics the Hollywood experience, where players participate in activities related to music, television, movies and theater, while attempting to avoid the dark side of fame: the Fame Fatale. This project serves as a prototype for a board game that offers players the opportunity to take their turn in the spotlight.
As opposed to just a regular trivia game, in The Fame Game, players take their turn in the spotlight, completing tasks such as humming popular songs, drawing famous movie scenes, performing one-minute versions of plays, and more while their opponents and them race to be the first to collect an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony playing card. If the activities are completed unsuccessfully, players draw a Fame Fatale card, indicating a fall in their rise to fame such as a bad run-in with the paparazzi, and sends them backwards on the board.
The game pieces of the game feature eight celebrities who have fallen victim to fame's dark side, or as I titled this aspect of the game: the Fame Fatale. One side of the game piece features the celebs at their prime, while the opposite side features a paparazzi picture or mugshot taken right before their name would grace the cover of every tabloid gossip magazine. The eight celebrities I selected were Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, Lindsay Lohan, Charlie Sheen, Amy Winehouse, Mel Gibson, Whitney Houston and Macaulay Culkin.
The project was featured in Purchase College's Senior Thesis Exhibition, as well as a Senior Design Collective at the Passage Gallery on Purchase College's campus.
